As Ramadan approaches, meat prices across Pakistan have skyrocketed, putting an additional burden on consumers.
In Sialkot, the price of chicken meat has surged by Rs107 per kg, now selling at Rs700 per kg. The price of mutton has jumped from Rs1,800 to Rs2,700 per kg, while beef prices have risen from Rs800 to Rs1,200 per kg.
In Karachi, chicken meat prices continue to rise, with rates exceeding Rs700 per kg, despite the official price being Rs650 per kg. The price of live chicken has also soared to Rs500 per kg.
Concerns Over Ramadan Price Hikes
Poultry shop owners attribute the rising prices to increased costs from farms, while consumers fear further hikes during Ramadan. Many predict that if prices remain unchecked, chicken meat could reach Rs800 per kg during the holy month.
