Renowned religious and political figure Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq, who was killed in a suicide blast on Friday in his seminary, served as the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Darul Uloom Haqqania — based in Nowshera — and Chairman of the Defense of Pakistan Council.
Born in 1968 in Akora Khattak, Nowshera, he played a significant role in the religious and political spheres in Pakistan.
Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq is considered one of the founders of Darul Uloom Haqqania, contributing immensely to the institution’s growth. He was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007 — during the Pervez Mushraf era — actively participating in legislative matters related to religious and national affairs.

In 2019, he was elected as the central Ameer of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (S), further strengthening his influence in religious and political circles. His contributions have been widely recognized across the country.
Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq is the son of the influential religious scholar and former senator Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, who was assassinated at his residence in Rawalpindi.
On Nov 2, 2018, octogenarian Maulana Sami-ul-Haq was stabbed to death while resting in his room.
He was laid to rest in his hometown, Akora Khattak.
Legacy of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq
Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, who was around 82 years old at the time of his assassination, was the head of the Darul Uloom Haqqania seminary in Akora Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was a senator of Pakistan from 1985 to 1991 and again from 1991 to 1997. In the July 25, 2018, election, he aligned himself with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Maulana was referred to as the ‘Father of Taliban’ due to his influence on the Taliban fighters who later took over Kabul after the ouster of US and allies forces.
