The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Friday issued the release order of the PTI activist Sanam Javed. The ATC issued release orders after the approval of the surety bonds in the case, but she was arrested again.
Sanam Javed was granted bail in the May 9 riots case. She was granted bail last week.
Last month, Lahore police re-arrested several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) women just hours after they were released from Kot Lakhpat Jail on the orders of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).
The women who were arrested again include Sanam Javed, Afshan Tariq, Ashmiya Shuja, and Shah Bano.
An ATC on September 25 ordered the release of Sanam Javed and other PTI activists in the Jinnah House attack case that occurred on May 9.
The court approved their bail pleas against surety bonds worth Rs 0.1 million each.
The jail authorities freed the political workers today upon receiving a court order. However, they were arrested again as they were leaving the jail premises.
'Dark chapter'
The army termed the events of May 9 a “dark chapter” and announced its intent to try the protesters under relevant laws, including two military laws — the Pakistan Army Act and Official Secrets Act.
The Jinnah House attack case stems from events that unfolded on May 9, which led to violent clashes across Pakistan. These disturbances were triggered by the arrest of former prime minister and PTI Chief Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Protests erupted in both remote and major cities, with PTI workers expressing their dissatisfaction with their leader's detention.
The situation escalated to the point where the armed forces were summoned in Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad to maintain law and order.
Notably, Army installations and the Corps Commander's house in Lahore came under attack during one such protest, resulting in injuries, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi.
