Renowned Hollywood actor Val Kilmer has passed away at the age of 65. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed to The New York Times that he died in Los Angeles on Tuesday due to pneumonia.
Kilmer, who shared Mercedes with his ex-wife Joanne Whalley, had been battling throat cancer since his diagnosis in 2014.
The legendary actor was best known for his role as Iceman in the 1986 blockbuster 'Top Gun' and as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the 1995 film 'Batman Forever'. He also portrayed musician Jim Morrison in 'The Doors'.
During his cancer treatment, Kilmer underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and a tracheostomy, a procedure that created a hole in his neck to assist with breathing. He also relied on a feeding tube for nourishment.
In the Amazon Prime documentary Val, Kilmer candidly discussed his battle with cancer, revealing how he first discovered his condition after coughing up coagulated blood before losing consciousness and calling for medical help.
"I obviously am sounding much worse than I feel. I can't speak without plugging this hole," he explained.
Beyond his career, Kilmer was known for high-profile relationships, including his marriage to Joanne Whalley, with whom he had two children. He was also romantically linked to Cher, Cindy Crawford, Angelina Jolie, and Daryl Hannah over the years.
