Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expedited the implementation of an ambitious plan to transform Taxila into a globally recognized city of civilizations. The formation of the Taxila Heritage Authority has been ordered, along with immediate preparation of an operational framework.
Punjab's Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb visited Taxila and chaired a high-level meeting focused on the two-phase project — initially upgrading the city and eventually developing it into an International Tourist City.
Key decisions made during the meeting include the revival of the Taxila Arts & Crafts Village within 15 days and the drafting of a world-class tourism policy. A preliminary management plan for the preservation of ancient sites and heritage locations has already been prepared, with instructions to finalize it soon.
The scope of environmental protection agencies in Taxila is also being expanded. Officials briefed the meeting on the completion of mapping for industries, factories, and brick kilns in and around Taxila.
Detailed discussions were also held on the Taxila City Master Plan, and proposals were considered for expanding the Taxila Museum and creating an Open-Air Museum to further showcase the region’s rich cultural legacy.
