In a major development in the money laundering investigation linked to the high-profile Mustafa Amir murder case, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has approached Interpol for the issuance of a 'Silver Notice' against the prime suspect Armaghan Qureshi.
According to sources within the FIA, the issuance of the Silver Notice would allow Pakistan to trace Armaghan’s assets in 193 countries and potentially seize his foreign bank accounts.
“This notice will also support efforts to repatriate laundered money back to Pakistan,” an official familiar with the matter added.
If approved, Armaghan’s Silver Notice will be only the second of its kind ever issued worldwide, sources revealed — marking an extraordinary move in Pakistan’s fight against transnational financial crimes.
Links to murder and drug trade
Armaghan is the central accused in the murder of DHA youth Mustafa Amir, who was allegedly killed on January 6 and whose body was reportedly burned along with his car in Balochistan. Investigations have since revealed that Armaghan may have been involved in drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, and illegal weapons possession.
Recent revelations in court hearings, where Armaghan collapsed and alleged custodial torture, have kept the case in the national spotlight. He also claimed that police had taken him to Balochistan and threatened to kill him.
International dimensions
FIA officials believe Armaghan laundered large sums of money through an international network. The agency is now preparing a detailed dossier to be shared with Interpol, with the aim of initiating asset recovery and expanding the investigation beyond Pakistan’s borders.
Officials also said that the FIA is coordinating with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and AVCC to verify the extent of Armaghan’s criminal and financial activities.
Meanwhile, data extracted from a laptop recovered from Armaghan’s residence is being examined with the help of the Federal Investigation Agency’s cybercrime wing, and a disturbing audio recording believed to be Mustafa Amir’s last message is under forensic analysis.
