A crucial meeting regarding the wheat procurement plan in Punjab was held on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, focusing on securing the best possible rates for wheat farmers in the province.
The meeting was attended by Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Kirmani, Special Assistant for Price Control Salma Butt, and representatives from the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA), alongside key provincial officials.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo and Secretary Price Control and Commodities Management Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti also participated in the discussions.
The central agenda of the meeting was to discuss an action plan in collaboration with the Flour Mills Association to ensure the procurement of wheat at competitive rates, thus benefiting local farmers.
During the meeting, Punjab Agriculture Minister Kirmani assured that all possible steps would be taken to secure the best rates for wheat crops and facilitate farmers across the province. "On the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, we are committed to ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation for their wheat," he said.
In line with the government's efforts to streamline the wheat procurement process, Special Assistant for Price Control Salmi Butt emphasized that there would be no restrictions on the inter-provincial shipment of wheat.
"We aim to ensure a smooth supply chain for wheat across provinces to avoid any disruptions in the market," Salma Butt stated.
The collaboration between the provincial government and the Flour Mills Association is expected to play a significant role in stabilizing wheat prices and ensuring a fair deal for all stakeholders in the wheat supply chain. The outcome of this plan will be closely monitored as the wheat procurement season progresses in Punjab.
