Supreme Court of Pakistan has adjourned the hearing on the bail application of Senator Ejaz Chaudhry in connection with the May 9 violence cases until next week.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi questioned the prosecution about the evidence available against Senator Chaudhry. "What evidence do you have against Ejaz Chaudhry?" he asked.
Special Prosecutor informed the court that a video exists showing Ejaz Chaudhry inciting people to violence. Chief Justice Afridi further inquired, “Is there actually a video of him?”
DSP Dr. Javed of Lahore Police presented PEMRA records against the senator. Ejaz Chaudhry's lawyer argued that the only evidence provided is a TV interview.
“That may be, but your client was seen provoking the youth,” remarked Chief Justice Afridi.
Justice Shafi Siddiqui pointed out that one interview is dated May 17, while an audio clip is from May 10.
Justice Shakeel Ahmed stated, “If this is an incitement case, then show evidence from May 9 or earlier.”
The court directed the police to present further evidence and postponed the hearing until next week.
