Pakistan and the Republic of Korea successfully organized the two-day United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Conference, which was held in Islamabad.
The conference brought together senior military officials, government representatives, and high-ranking United Nations delegates from Pakistan and several other countries.
Among the notable participants were the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support. Representatives from the 157-member UN Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations also attended.
Addressing the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar highlighted the significance of the event, calling it “a vital step towards global peace.” He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in achieving sustainable global peace.
“Pakistan continues to play a pivotal role in promoting peace on the international stage,” Dar stated. “So far, over 235,000 Pakistani peacekeepers have served in UN missions around the world.”
The foreign minister paid tribute to the 181 Pakistani peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and honored their contributions to global peace.
During his address, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding position on the Kashmir issue, stressing that lasting global peace and stability is not possible without resolving the Kashmir dispute. He urged the United Nations to implement its resolutions on the matter.
“Pakistan will continue to support the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue,” he asserted.
Foreign Minister Dar also pointed out the rising challenges confronting UN peacekeeping missions. He identified the spread of misinformation as a major threat to international peace efforts.
He reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, emphasizing the country’s dedication to upholding peace and stability across the globe.
