In a major move to rejuvenate the local film industry, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a Rs2 billion grant to support and encourage filmmakers and directors across the province.
According to official sources, the decision aims to promote high-quality, popular films and breathe new life into Pakistan’s cinematic landscape. Only those filmmakers and directors who have produced at least one film in the past five years will be eligible to apply for the grant.
Film funds distribution committee formed
To ensure transparent and fair disbursement of funds, CM Maryam Nawaz has constituted a Film Funds Distribution Committee, which will be chaired by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Funding linked to film quality and popularity
According to the government’s guidelines, producers and directors who have made popular films will be prioritized. In order to apply, applicants must submit details of the film’s script and cast, ensuring that only well-developed and professionally planned projects qualify for financial support.
