At least five terrorists allegedly involved in attacks on labourers and security forces were killed in a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) operation in the Duki area of Balochistan, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to CTD spokespersons, the operation was conducted on an intelligence tip-off regarding the presence of militants linked to a banned outfit. The suspects opened fire upon seeing the law enforcement personnel, leading to a fierce gun battle in which all five militants were killed.
“The slain terrorists were involved in a series of targeted attacks on workers, civilians, and law enforcement agencies, particularly in the Quetta mining region,” CTD officials stated, adding that they also had a history of kidnappings.
The identities of the terrorists have not been disclosed yet, but officials confirmed their affiliation with a proscribed organization operating in the province.
Balochistan has seen a troubling surge in violence targeting mine workers and labourers in recent months. Several incidents have been reported in remote parts of the province, resulting in the deaths of dozens and abductions of many others. Authorities believe these attacks are aimed at disrupting economic activity and instilling fear among local communities.
CTD officials said weapons and explosives were also recovered from the site of the operation. A further investigation is underway to trace the group's remaining network and collaborators.
