A high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority (NHA) Central Zone was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, where major infrastructure initiatives were discussed.
The projects discussed included two major motorway projects worth $2 billion set to begin in Sindh this year.
Addressing the meeting, Abdul Aleem Khan said that construction of the M6 and M9 motorways would kick off in Sindh during the current year. He also revealed that planning is underway to initiate the Mansehra-Naran and Kaghan motorways in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) within the same timeframe.
The minister further highlighted that major projects like the Sukkur-Hyderabad and Karachi motorways are also being started in Sindh, adding that these efforts reflect the government’s commitment to improving nationwide connectivity.
In Balochistan, Abdul Aleem Khan said that work has already started on transforming the N25 highway — connecting Quetta to Karachi — into a four-lane road, similar in design and quality to a motorway.
He emphasized that all projects will be completed within set timelines, and fortnightly meetings will be held to ensure regular monitoring and accountability.
Calling for higher standards in operations, the minister directed NHA officials to make their presentations more purposeful and result-oriented. He also instructed the department to enhance the visual appeal of city entrances under NHA control.
During his visit to the NHA headquarters, the federal minister also planted a sapling as part of a green initiative. Additionally, he directed that a joint meeting be held with the Ring Road Authority to coordinate upcoming projects more efficiently.
