Celebrated Pakistani wedding photographer Irfan Ahson has opened up about the high-profile wedding of Junaid Safdar, son of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz.
Ahson, known for photographing elite weddings across Pakistan — including those of influential political, business, and media families — made the remarks during his appearance on Samaa TV’s podcast.
While speaking on the show, Ahson refrained from delving too deeply into private matters but noted that the overall environment at the event led him to believe that the union might not endure. “You observe the dynamics, the behavior, and the interactions, and you can sense the friction,” he remarked, hinting at underlying tensions between the families involved.
Though the marriage, which had garnered extensive media attention both locally and abroad, ended within a short span, Ahson remained measured in his comments, attributing the failed union to a visible lack of harmony between the two families.
“The bride’s family wasn’t blending in well,” he said, subtly pointing to interpersonal disconnects that may have played a role. In contrast, he spoke warmly of his interactions with Maryam Nawaz and her immediate family.
“I had a great experience with Maryam Nawaz and her family — they welcomed me and treated me well. They were all very nice to me. I also met Junaid, who was very courteous, down-to-earth, and well-mannered,” Ahson added.
Ahson, who has a significant following on social media, is widely regarded for his cinematic photography style and frequently receives praise for his coverage of high-profile events. His statement has since sparked conversations on social media, with many drawing attention to the pressures and challenges that accompany high-profile marriages in the public eye.
The wedding of Junaid Safdar in 2021 had made headlines for its lavish scale, designer ensembles, and celebrity presence. The eventual separation of the couple, though never publicly discussed in detail by either party, had led to widespread speculation. Ahson’s recent remarks are the first from someone close to the event to suggest that tensions were apparent even during the celebrations.
