Kamran Lashari, the director general of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), has tendered his resignation, which has been sent to the chairperson of the authority and chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz.
In the resignation letter, Lashari stated: "It has been an honour to serve as DG of the Walled City Authority. I have tried with full sincerity to promote culture and present a positive image of Pakistan to the world through heritage."
He added that due to some personal reasons, he is unable to continue in the role and requested that his resignation be accepted.
Sources suggest that the resignation was prompted by the decision to return key historical Mughal-era sites, including the Shahi Qila (Lahore Fort) and Shalamar Gardens, to the Department of Archaeology.
Another contributing factor, according to insiders, was the hosting of marriage functions at the Lahore Fort without amendments to the 1950 heritage protection rules, which reportedly became a point of contention.
