The AI revolution is making its mark in the hair care industry, with AI-powered shampooing machines quickly gaining popularity in Chinese salons.
These machines, spotted across various districts of Guangzhou Province, offer a fully automated hair-washing experience that promises to wash and rinse hair in just 13 minutes.
The innovative machines are equipped with infrared sensors to detect the user's scalp, allowing them to tailor the shampoo and washing method based on individual hair types. These AI-driven devices come with a variety of built-in modes, including speed wash, normal, extra time, and water shower, as well as three levels of scalp massage intensity. Additionally, the machines have settings for both short and long-haired clients.
The first AI-shampooing sessions were priced at 9.9 yuan ($1.35), but due to their growing popularity, prices have risen to 19 yuan ($2.60). Despite their efficiency, the machines have faced mixed reviews, with some users complaining about the intensity of the scalp massage, while others feel the wash doesn't reach the back of the head effectively.
One user on Weibo wrote, “I tried it and it’s useless, my scalp hurts,” while another added, “It just sprays bubbles and rinses with water, but it can’t even reach the back of my head, and it’s not clean enough, I have to do it manually.”
Even with the mixed feedback, the AI shampooing experience offers a unique and affordable alternative to traditional hair washing, making it worth a try for many, particularly at such a low cost. Whether the technology will continue to gain traction or face further refinement remains to be seen, but for now, it’s certainly causing a buzz in China’s hair care industry.
