Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen said on Saturday that there was no point in leaving the franchise.
Speaking to media in Lahore, Tareen said: “I just want to remind the Pakistan Super League (PSL) administration that we’ve stalled at one point. Things aren’t progressing the way they were during the sixth, seventh and eighth editions of the PSL.”
“It’s obvious to everyone how crowd numbers are now decreasing compared to past editions of the league,” he added.
“The PSL’s marketing has declined, and the excitement around the tournament has also diminished compared to previous years.”
“We’re heading in the wrong direction, and that’s what I’m trying to highlight. Two new teams are set to be added in the next season, but before that, we expect a clear plan and structure for their inclusion,” said Tareen.
“Before introducing the two teams in the coming seasons, we need reassurance that this move will actually help us progress. Since the day we became the owners of Multan Sultans, we’ve incurred financial losses,” he said.
Tareen added: “We [Multan Sultans] want to see our team valued equally with teams like Karachi Kings. It’s not sustainable for me to keep spending money down a well every year.”
“We are now relying on our local players, as our overseas players are not performing. We want everyone to come together to bring innovation to the PSL,” said Tareen.
He said: “What can we do if the PCB is unwilling to think ahead? Even now, the ticketing process is not easy.”
