Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq on Saturday stressed the need for cooperation with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in line with holding the general elections within the constitutional term of 90 days.
Expressing his thoughts, Mr Haq was of the view that there was a dire need to hold transparent elections for the sake of stability in the country. "The JI will hold talks with the political parties to reach consensus on timely elections," he added.
He bemoaned the inflated bills and exorbitant price of gas, saying, "Where will the masses go as the price of power has been increased by up to 80 percent? The increase in the price by up to 50 percent has also been announced," Mr Haq rued.
Taking a jibe at the mafias, Mr Haq said, "The mafias had remained part of all the governments. Nobody had tightened the noose around the mafias."

Last week, Mr Haq assailed the caretaker government over the skyrocketing inflation.
Addressing the workers, Mr. Haq said: “It is not fair to resort to the tactics of hooliganism in terms of the electricity bills. Anwaarul Haq Kakar is further leaving the masses to face severe economic hardships.”
Ruling the ballooning inflation in the country, Mr. Haq said: “PM Kakar is saying that there is no inflation in the country. Who has given the mandate to the caretaker government of doing more inflation?”

Earlier, Mr Haq equated the inflated power bills with the “drone attacks”.
Mr Haq assailed the caretaker government, saying, “The people have been compelled to commit suicide due to the inflated power bills. About 48 per cent of the taxes have been imposed along with the original power price.”
He asked the government to end the additional taxes on electricity bills.
