The caretaker government on Saturday decided that the scourge of smuggling and hoarding will be tackled with iron hand, while Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan Army’s unwavering support to the government’s efforts on major projects for economic recovery.
The fifth meeting of the Apex Committee of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was held under the chairmanship of interim Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, in which the Army Chief, Federal Cabinet, Provincial Chief Ministers and related senior civil and military officials participated.
According to the declaration, during the second session of the fifth meeting, the participants received comprehensive briefings on how to improve the business and investment environment in the country from the ministries of foreign affairs, interior, information technology and telecommunication, national food security and research, and water resources.
The declaration further stated that the respective ministries presented comprehensive plans covering timelines and solutions to overcome major challenges.
The committee unanimously reiterated that all decisions would be taken in the larger interest of the country and that the menace of smuggling and hoarding would be tackled with an iron hand.
The interim premier gave the ministries instructions to carry out their duties for the general well-being of the populace and economic stability in the short term, as well as to develop plans for the medium and long term.
On this special occasion, COAS Gen. Asim Munir reaffirmed the military’s unflinching commitment to the government’s continuous work on this significant initiative for the country’s “economic recovery.”
When discussing the meeting earlier, Kakar stated that the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) had made significant decisions regarding Open Pakistan and the new visa system, which will allow foreign businesspeople or investors to easily obtain a Pakistani visa on the documentation of international business organizations.
With this, he claimed, all of our chambers and businesspeople would be able to give a document to anybody outside of Pakistan, making it easier for them to obtain a visa as well as those connected to medium- and large-sized businesses. Additionally, there will be facilities for the simple visa regime, which will allow Pakistan to enter a new phase of commercial and economic development.
