Pakistani pop duo Hassan and Roshan have addressed the controversy surrounding their music video for the song 'Sukoon'.
The video has been criticized by some for its allegedly inappropriate content, with some viewers objecting the concept of the video.
Hassan and Roshan have denied these allegations, stating that the original concept of the music video did not contain any LGBT+ tones. They explained that the mermaid in the video is a symbol of loneliness and longing, and that her interactions with the female singer in the video are not meant to be romantic.
"We'd like to clarify that the original concept of Sukoon's Music Video did not contain any LGBT+ nuances," said Hassan. "But people are free to interpret it any way they like it."
Roshaan added that the duo had to make some changes to the video after some viewers interpreted it as romantic. "When we were doing that, it appeared romantic," said Roshaan. "So, we decided for her to interact with Shae. It was also funny when people doubled down on that perspective and thought both the girls were romantically involved."
The duo also revealed that they had been offered a large sum of money by Indian label T-Series to buy the rights to 'Sukoon'. However, they turned down the offer because T-Series wanted to replace their vocals with their own.
"We'd have to spend the rest of our lives explaining to people that it was actually us, who made it," added Hassan.
Hassan and Roshan are confident that their music will continue to resonate with fans, despite the controversy surrounding the 'Sukoon' music video.
"We're just going to keep making music that we love," said Roshaan. "And if people want to interpret it in their own way, that's up to them."
