The Anti-Smog cabinet committee led by Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi is mulling to take crucial steps to tackle smog.
The committee is considering the use of artificial rain to wash away smog particles. This is part of a broader effort to address the smog crisis.
Chief Minister Naqvi emphasized the urgent need for effective action. He stated that smog is causing problems for the entire region.
He also acknowledged the contribution of crop burning to air pollution, with Pakistan responsible for 10%, and India for 90%.
To address this, the government is looking into providing modern machinery to farmers to reduce reliance on open-air crop burning.
In the short term, schools and offices in Lahore will be closed to minimize public exposure. Water spraying operations are also underway daily to settle smog particles.
Other measures include quality checks for petrol pumps, establishing a meteorology laboratory, and considering electric bikes for cleaner transportation.
