Lahore had remained one of the top polluted cities in the world due to the fifth season—smog—and has now opted for innovative ways to create anti-smog awareness among citizens.
Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed the administration to organize a cycling event for anti-smog, a healthy environment, and the promotion of positive civic activities metropolis.
A family cycling event with the support of MCL, district administration, LDA, and PHA was organized on Sunday.
Lahore commissioner said that a green line will be allocated for bicycles from Liberty Roundabout to Siddique Trade Center to Liberty Chowk.
He said that a family cycling event will be held on Sunday (Sept 17) at 5 p.m.
The commissioner invited cycling groups, families, children and media houses to participate in the event.
It is proposed to kick off a permanent series of cycling events in a calendar year.
Bring bicycles to the rally
The administration urged the citizens to bring bicycles.
Lahore admin asked for Lahorities help to battle smog and to create an antismog environment.
He urged metropolis residents to show their commitment to a healthy environment by participating in a family event.
Lahore commissioner said: “The City of Lahore is our home, citizens should come forward to promote its healthy environment.”
The meeting was held by additional commissioner Abdul Salam Arif, COMCL Syed Ali Abbas Bukhari, Director LDA Asif Hussain, cycling group representatives, and other officers who participated in the meeting.
On the directions of Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa, a family cycling event was organized in the provincial capital Lahore with the private sector, Lahore Development Authority, and critical Mass cycling club.
The cycling event was held to combat smog, to promote a healthy environment, and encourage positive civic activities.
The Family Cycling event track started from Liberty Chowk, passing through Main Boulevard Gulberg, Zahoor Elahi road and concluded back at Liberty Chowk. Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa led the Family Event Cycling Ride and completed the track.
Cycling groups, families, children, a large number of citizens, and media houses also participated in the event. LDA, MCL, district administration, police, PHA, LWMC, and Rescue 1122 also participated in the Family Cycling event.

The purpose of the cycling event was to raise awareness about environmental pollution in the city. Lahore is our home, and citizens should come forward to promote a healthy environment said by Commissioner Lahore. He further stated that a green line has been designated for bicyclists from Liberty Roundabout to Zahoor Elahi Road. Cycling events will be included in the city's annual calendar, creating a continuous series of cycling events.
Lahore High Court has clear directions for promoting healthy activities in the city. Instructions have been issued to set up green lanes for cycling. Under the anti-smog campaign, 135 intersections in the city are being expanded to reduce traffic congestion.
