Amidst the chilling winter, Lahore is grappling with a resurgence of the power crisis, causing widespread disruption.
The shortfall in LESCO’s electricity production has hit a staggering 1000 megawatts, amplifying the load-shedding duration to a distressing 6 hours across the city. The primary cause? A drastic reduction in hydroelectric power generation triggered by canal blockages.
LESCO officials emphasized that the city's daily power demand surges to 2600 MW during cold spells. However, a meager 1600 MW is currently accessible, plunging rural areas into over 12 hours of power outages.
WAPDA sources highlighted the acute decline in hydroelectricity output due to canal closures. This plunge, coupled with the non-supply of oil and gas, has forced several thermal plants to cease operations.
With the power deficit persisting, concerns loom over potential disruptions in commercial and industrial activities in the coming days, reflecting the dire impact of this energy crisis on everyday life.
