Two more PIA employees escaped in Toronto, both officers went to Canada as flight attendants but did not turn up at the time of their return to Pakistan. It is worth mentioning here that the number of PIA employees who slipped in Canada during this year has touched nine.
The spokesman for the national flag carrier confirmed the escape of two officers, including Syed Ali Abbas and Farkhanda Shaheen, in Canada.
Though airline management was trying hard to control this trend, in the recent past, a ban was imposed on the deployment of young crew members on Canada flights. Management was of the view that senior crew members would not take the risk of slipping in Canada, but even then, this trend is up.
Apparently, the reason behind the slipping of the airline crew in Canada was fear of the privatization plan of the airline and low salaries. Whereas, PIA officers were of the view that Canada's liberal asylum program was responsible for the problem.
“National airline's management has to face embarrassment from Canadian authorities on such incidents of escape," said another PIA officer.
Though national carrier management has tried to stop such incidents, it has been to no avail. Even increasing the age limit of the crew members could not overcome the problem. Other crew members who slipped in the past included Muntasar Mehdi, Muhammad Ayaz, Fida Hussain, Khalid Mehmood, and Ijaz Ali.
