The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday served notices to 14 political parties over non-compliance with intra-party election regulations.
According to the list of causes issued, the electoral watchdog will hear the case related to the aforementioned case on January 4.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) and Pakistan Minorities Alliance are among 14 political parties that have been served notices.
The Election Commission's move comes in the wake of its recent decision to strip the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) of its election symbol due to the party's failure to conduct intra-party elections by its constitution.
The decision was rendered by a 5-member bench led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja, following a petition related to PTI's internal elections and the allocation of the election symbol "Bat," as per the directive of the Peshawar High Court.
In an 11-page decision authored by Election Commission member Ikramullah Khan, it was emphasised that transparent intra-party elections are imperative for the democratic functioning of political parties.
