A fire broke out from a gas cylinder on the fifth floor of a building in Ichra vicinity in Lahore on Friday.
As per the Police's preliminary investigation, the fire occurred when the children were sleeping and the affected family used to live and cook in the same room.
Police said the room walls were made of fiberglass and the cause of the fire was a gas cylinder as the fire intensified due to the fiber wall.
Ghulam Abbas, the father of the victims, worked at a nearby stove and as per the Police report, he ran towards the house after seeing the fire from his house.
“The children were burnt before the father reached the fifth floor,” police said.
The dead were identified as 12-year-old Iman, 8-year-old Noor, 4-year-old Ibrahim, and 2-year-old Ismail.
Rescue teams reached and brought the fire under control. A 10x10-foot room made of fiberglass was the victim's family's dining and sleeping space.
Police teams collected evidence from the house.
The affected family pays a monthly rent of Rs8,000 to live in a dilapidated room on the 5 floor.
The police have decided to take legal action against the owner for violating the building rules.
Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the death of four children in the fire incident.
