In a remote village in Uganda's Mukono district, a 43-year-old man has made headlines with his unique journey to matrimony after marrying seven women on the same day.
Traditional healer, Habib Nsikonnene, met the parents of his seven prospective wives within the span of just one week.
The remarkable culmination of his quest for love was a set of seven simultaneous nikah ceremonies held at each bride's home on September 10. These weddings united Nsikonnene with his seven fiancées, two of whom are sisters, in a grand and lavish affair.
The wives include Mariam, Madinah, Aisha, Zainabu, Fatuma, Rashida and Musanyusa, who is the man’s first wife and has been with him for seven years.
Notably, Nsikonnene's financial means, described as substantial by local standards, allowed for opulent celebrations.
The festivities extended to a memorable reception ceremony at his own home on the following Sunday, where all seven wives and their families and friends gathered to celebrate the unions.
Reportedly, Nsikonnene's marriage procession included an impressive convoy of approximately 40 vehicles and 30 motorcycles, underscoring the scale of the celebration. According to area residents, Nsikonnene's business has been a lucrative source of income, contributing to his ability to host such grand events.
In light of his extraordinary feat, Nsikonnene has emerged as a revered figure and something of a local hero among the villagers, placing their remote village on the map.
Emmanuel Owere, the chairperson of Namasengere Village, expressed his admiration for Nsikonnene, stating, "This man with rare qualities (Nsikonnene) settled in this village about four years ago. He came and bought land here and introduced himself as a traditional healer. We allowed him to practice his trade."
Owere further explained the unexpected fame that Nsikonnene had brought to their village, saying, "When he settled here, little did we know that he would bring us fame. Our village name is trending everywhere."
The groom also reportedly bought brand-new cars as presents for each of his wives. During his speech at the reception, Nsikonenne said his wives did not have any jealousy among themselves. He also said he would be adding more wives in future, adding: “This is not the end.”
According to the groom's father, Hajj Abdul Ssemakula, polygamy has been a tradition in his family, as his grandfather had six wives living in the same house.
"My own father had five wives, and I have four, who live in one house,” he said.
It is being claimed that Nsikonnne broke the record of marrying many wives in Uganda at once.
In recognition of Nsikonnene's exceptional status and contributions, the village chairperson has proposed naming a road in the area after him, highlighting the positive impact he has had on the local community. "He is a rare man because given his status in society, he has been mingling with everyone. He is a hard worker, and locals should emulate him," Owere remarked, acknowledging Nsikonnene's role as an inspiring figure in their community.
