Former Pakistan cricket star Imad Wasim has emphasised the importance of prioritizing Pakistan's welfare above personal ambitions, advising young prodigy Shaheen Shah Afridi to make decisions in the best interest of the nation.
Speaking exclusively to a local news outlet, Wasim clarified that discussions with Afridi during the International League T20 (ILT20) did not revolve around his potential return to the national squad. Instead, he underscored the significance of ensuring that decisions are driven by a sense of duty towards Pakistan.
"Shaheen Afridi is like a younger brother to me, and I would advise him to prioritize everything that benefits Pakistan," stated Wasim, emphasizing the need for wise counsel surrounding Afridi. "There are people around him who can provide valuable advice."
Reflecting on Pakistan's recent T20I series against New Zealand, where they faced a 4-1 defeat, Wasim highlighted captain Babar Azam's consistent performance, which earned him a favorable batting position despite traditionally occupying the third spot.
Additionally, he commended Afridi's bold move to experiment with various opening pairs, suggesting that such strategic exploration should continue in preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
Wasim, who retired from international cricket last year after an illustrious eight-year career, surprised many with his decision but continues to play a vital role in the sport through league engagements. Currently representing the Abu Dhabi Night Riders in the ILT20, Wasim also contributes to the Desert Vipers.
