The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Sunday issued a detailed written order of summons order for the caretaker prime minister and several key ministers to appear before the court over missing Baloch students case to be heard on February 19th.
IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued the written summons order, demanding the presence of the PM Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakkar, along with the ministers of interior, defense, and human rights, as well as the respective secretaries of these ministries.
The court expressed its dismay over the lack of progress in recovering the missing Baloch students despite previous assurances from the Attorney General.
The court criticized the federal government and remarked that it seemed uninterested in upholding the rule of law in the matter and as a result, the court found it necessary to summon the highest-ranking officials, including the Prime Minister, to seek clarification on the issue.
Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, the court emphasized that those in positions of power who failed to take action in recovering the missing students could be considered guilty of misconduct.
It asserted that the officials' inaction amounted to complicity in depriving citizens of their fundamental rights to life and liberty.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) reiterated its stance that there were only two plausible scenarios regarding the missing students: either they were involved in criminal activities and should be produced before the appropriate court, or action should be taken against those responsible for their disappearance.
Despite the court's expectations, officials from the Ministry of Interior and Defense failed to provide any substantial information or progress in the case, even in a sealed envelope presented to the court.
