Lahore Qalandars secured their first point on the points table after their scheduled game against Peshawar Zalmi faced cancellation due to persistent rain and a wet outfield in Rawalpindi today in the latest development of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
As the rain poured down heavily in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, covers were promptly placed at the stadium to shield the playing field from the adverse weather conditions.
Despite initial efforts to resume play by removing the covers when the rain briefly halted, the ground staff worked tirelessly to dry the field.
The match's cut-off time was set at 4:47 p.m. local time, but the umpires ultimately deemed it unfeasible to commence proceedings before that time. Consequently, both Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi were awarded a point each in the aftermath of the cancellation.
Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi now stand in third place on the PSL points table with seven points, while the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, find themselves at the bottom with merely one point from seven games.
It's worth noting that the teams faced logistical challenges as their departure from the hotel was initially delayed.
The cancelled match between Q, another fixture between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators is scheduled to take place at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, where the impact of heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad was also evident yesterday.
