The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to field its incarcerated activist Sanam Javed for a women's seat in the upcoming elections for the general seats of the Senate, while former provincial minister Dr Yasmin Rashid will be the party's candidate for the technocrat seat in the Upper House.
The names of all the candidates for the Senate elections were approved by PTI Founder Chairman Imran Khan. Out of the many names on the list, about 14 were finalized by Khan himself.
Additionally, Hamid Khan and Zulfi Bukhari have been nominated as candidates for the general seats of Punjab, announced party leader Mian Aslam Iqbal. He also said that Umar Sarfaraz Cheema and Col (retd) Ijaz Minhas have been nominated as covering candidates for the general seats.
Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed and Mirza Muhammad Afridi will be the candidates for general seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as Irfan Saleem, Khurram Zeeshan and Azhar Mashwani.
Azam Khan Swati and Irshad Hussain will be PTI's candidates on the technocrat seat, Ayesha Bano and Rubina Naz given tickets on the women's seats.
Meanwhile, today is the last date for submitting nomination papers for the Senate elections on general seats. The returning officers would be accepting the nominations till 5pm. The scrutiny of the nomination papers would be completed by March 19, while by March 21, appeals could be filed against the acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers.
Moreover, decisions on the appeals would be issued by March 25, while polling would be held in the provincial as well as National assemblies on April 2 from 9am to 4pm.
Elections will be held on 12 seats in the Senate each from Punjab and Sindh, and two each from Islamabad and Balochistan.
