The holy month of Ramazan is underway and in this month, Muslims are engaged in rejoicing in its blessings. However, people who are addicted to smoking cigarettes as soon as they break their fast put themselves in serious physical danger.
According to research, breaking your fast and then lighting up a cigarette is the most harmful thing you can do. Studies show that the body needs oxygen, carbohydrates, and water after breaking a fast.
In this situation, a single cigarette puff causes the arteries to shrink and results in insufficient absorption of oxygen in the blood circulation.
As a result of this, the blood thickens, which increases the risk of clotting, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure and cholesterol, all these factors multiply the increased risk of heart disease.
According to a medical specialist who worked on the study, smoking just after the end of Ramazan can lead to physical tremors in the hands and feet along with cardiac problems. In simple terms, smoking a cigarette right after breaking the fast can also cause sudden death, according to the research.
According to medical professionals, smoking during Ramazan damages blood vessel walls more severely than it does throughout the rest of the year. It is extremely dangerous to smoke cigarettes after a long break, since it compromises the body's immune system as a whole.
Considering the risks associated with smoking, the research concluded that it is safe to reduce smoking. If there is a strong urge, one can have a smoke 30 to 40 minutes after Iftar.
Experts say that Ramazan is a good opportunity to quit smoking because when a person is fasting and does not smoke for about 13 to 14 hours a day, he/she can do this throughout the year.
Similarly, during the fasting month, a discipline is also created in the nature of that person, by which he can get rid of smoking forever.
