In response to swirling rumours regarding the complete closure of Karachi Airport's Runway 25L/R07, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has stepped forward to dispel the misinformation.
In an official statement issued by the CAA spokesperson, it was emphasized that while routine maintenance work is indeed underway, reports suggesting a permanent shutdown of the runway are unfounded.
The spokesperson elaborated that the ongoing maintenance work primarily entails rubber removal from the runway surface, a process vital for ensuring optimal safety and performance. Contrary to speculations, the runway remains operational albeit with certain restrictions during the maintenance period.
Detailing the maintenance schedule, the spokesperson clarified that the rubber removal operations are slated to continue intermittently until May 3. During these periods, aircraft with specified load requirements or less are advised to utilize the alternate runway to ensure smooth operations at the airport.
Furthermore, the spokesperson emphasized the importance of adhering to the maintenance times as listed in the Notum, noting that these are based on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). For local reference, Pakistan Standard Time (PST) is specified to be five hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time, ensuring clarity for all stakeholders involved.
