The Congress on Saturday decided to field state minister Vikramaditya Singh against BJP candidate and actress Kangana Ranaut in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha seat.
Vikramaditya Singh, hailing from a lineage of political stalwarts, including his father, the six-time chief minister Virbhadra Singh, and his mother, Pratibha Singh, the incumbent MP from Mandi and the Congress' state unit president, brings a wealth of experience and legacy to the fray.
According to Indian media reports, the Mandi constituency, known for its penchant for electing scions of erstwhile princely states, has a rich history of favouring royals, with 13 out of 19 elections, including two bypolls since 1952, seeing the ascent of such candidates.
