Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has expressed his keenness for a Test series between India and Pakistan.
When asked by former England skipper Michael Vaughan on the podcast Club Prairie Fire, Sharma emphasized the anticipation surrounding Test matches between Pakistan and India, acknowledging Pakistan's prowess as a formidable team with a strong bowling lineup.
"Don't you think playing Pakistan regularly will be fantastic for Test cricket?" Rohit was asked by Vaughan. "I firmly think that! They work well together," Rohit retorted.
He further said: "They have got a superb bowling line-up. I think it would be a good contest, especially if you play in the overseas condition. That would be awesome."
"Would you like to see a regular series with Pakistan?" Vaughan then posed to Rohit. "I would love to. At the end of the day, we want to be in contest,” he replied.
"I think it will be a great contest between the two sides. We anyway play them in the ICC tournaments. So, it doesn’t even matter. I am only interested in pure cricket. I am not looking at anything else. It’s just pure cricket. A battle between bat and ball. It will be a great contest, so why not.”
The most anticipated T20 World Cup 2024 match between Pakistan and India will take place on June 9 at Eisenhower Park in New York.
The last Test match between Pakistan and India took place in 2007.
Sharma's remarks come amidst ongoing discussions and speculations surrounding the resumption of bilateral cricketing ties between Pakistan and India. Cricket enthusiasts and fans from both countries eagerly await the prospect of witnessing thrilling encounters on the cricket field between these traditional rivals.
