Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Umar Ayub condemned on Wednesday the events of May 9 as a conspiracy while advocating for the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law in the country.
Addressing a seminar titled 'Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan' in Islamabad, Omar Ayub stressed PTI's commitment to upholding the constitution, citing the party founder's unwavering stance against any compromises on constitutional principles.
Highlighting PTI's sacrifices in the pursuit of constitutional supremacy, Ayub recounted instances of facing rubber bullets, tear gas shelling, and enduring adversities to reach their current position.
Ayub asserted that the allegations against PTI regarding the May 9 events were part of a larger conspiracy, aimed at targeting the party and its leadership. He called for a thorough investigation into the incidents of that day.
Referring to personal accusations against himself, Ayub dismissed them as fabricated charges orchestrated to undermine PTI's credibility. He attributed these allegations to what he termed the "London Plan," alleging that they were part of a targeted campaign against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Touching upon broader economic and political issues, Ayub welcomed Saudi investment while lamenting the negative growth rate under the Pakistan Democratic Movement's finance minister, contrasting it with PTI's achievements in maintaining a 6% growth rate amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also urged for transparency regarding incidents like the train fire following Benazir Bhutto's martyrdom, emphasizing the need for accountability and disclosure of reports detailing damages incurred.
In his closing remarks, Ayub reiterated PTI's steadfast commitment to the constitution and the rule of law, pledging to continue their advocacy for these fundamental principles.
