Karachi has ranked as the most polluted city in the world, followed by New Delhi in India and Lahore at the third spot.
According to IQAir, a Swiss air quality monitor, Karachi had the highest level of pollution in its air in the world with 260 particulate matter.
According to this data, the air quality of Karachi was categorized as ‘Unhealthy’ with its PM2.5 concentration level being 25.8 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value.
PM2.5 stands for fine particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers. The term is employed to characterize levels of these particles in both outdoor and indoor environments.

Indian capital of New Delhi ranked the second most polluted city in the world with the pollution reaching ‘Unhealthy’ level of 175 and PM2.5 concentration level being 102.5.
The third spot was clinched by the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Lahore, with the amount of pollution being recorded at 182 particulate matter.
According to AQI, the pollution levels from 154 to 200 are deemed harmful for health.
Air quality levels from 201 to 300 are considered extremely harmful, while above 301 indicates hazardous pollution levels.
Citizens have been instructed to use masks to avoid diseases caused by pollution.
