The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted the continuation of an intense heatwave across Lahore and most regions of Punjab, with daytime temperatures soaring 6-8°C above normal till May 27.
The prevailing synoptic situation indicates that continental air is dominant over the majority of Pakistan, coupled with high atmospheric pressure in the upper layers, contributing to the sustained heatwave conditions.
In the provincial capital of Lahore, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 45-47°C on Thursday and Friday, intensifying the discomfort of residents.
The scorching conditions are consistent with the hot and dry weather pattern that has characterized the region over the past 24 hours, where temperatures have already been 4-6°C above the usual averages.
The Potohar region will also experience elevated temperatures, with day temperatures predicted to remain 4-6°C higher than typical levels.
Lahore registered a maximum temperature of 44°C yesterday, with relative humidity in the evening recorded at 21%, exacerbating the heat stress.
Noorpur Thal and Khairpur emerged as the hottest locations in Punjab, each recording a peak temperature of 48°C. Several other cities faced similarly extreme heat: Rahim Yar Khan, Bawalnagar, Kot Addu, and Bhakkar reported highs of 47°C; Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan reached 46°C; while Sahiwal, Multan, and Sargodha each experienced temperatures of 45°C.
