The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to unveil the initial roster of newly delineated constituencies from the digital census tomorrow (Wednesday).
According to the ECP, objections to the preliminary constituency lists will be entertained until October 26, with hearings on these objections slated to run until November 25. The final electoral rolls are scheduled for release by November 30, and within 54 days following this publication, the Election Commission has outlined the election timetable.
Initially, the electoral watchdog had planned to issue the preliminary lists on October 10. However, it has now obtained the preliminary lists from the constituency committees, as per the directives given 15 days prior, and will proceed to make the preliminary constituency details public.
Notably, on September 21, the ECP disclosed its intentions to hold nationwide general elections in January 2024.
In this announcement, it was revealed that the preliminary lists of constituencies would be made public on September 27, 2023, while the final lists would be unveiled on November 30, 2023.
– Foreign media –
Few days back, the electrol watchdog had decided to invite foreign media and observers for the general elections.
The electoral watchdog had completed all the preparations in line with inviting the foreign media and prepared the code of conduct for the foreign media.
It had been decided to invite the foreign media immediately after the announcement of the election schedule. The foreign media and observers will be given access to visit the polling stations.
The observers will also be allowed to see the process of vote counting and the preparation of the election results.
