A Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Dublin encountered severe turbulence, leaving 12 people injured, including six crew members.
The incident, involving flight QR107, occurred while the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was flying over Turkey, prompting an emergency response from authorities.
The plane landed safely in Dublin, where the injured were immediately taken to receive medical attention. Dublin Airport authorities confirmed that six passengers and six crew members sustained injuries, with some reported to be in serious condition.
This disturbing event comes just five days after a similar incident involving a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore, which experienced severe turbulence.
That incident resulted in the death of a 73-year-old British man and left 20 others in intensive care. The Singapore Airlines flight had plummeted 6,000 feet in a matter of minutes, causing widespread panic and serious injuries, including spinal cord and brain injuries.
Aviation safety expert John Goglia commented on the recent incidents, noting that while the frequency of such events may seem alarming, the heightened attention from news coverage could be a contributing factor to the perceived increase in turbulence-related accidents.
Nonetheless, Goglia emphasised the importance of continually prioritizing safety in air travel.
