Pakistan white-ball captain Babar Azam expressed his desire to win the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup for the nation.
According to details, expressing his thoughts on the podcast shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Azam underscored the importance of all the fixtures in the mega event. “Not only is the match against India, but all the matches are equally important in the tournament.”
“This is the team [Pakistan] that belongs to everyone, and right now our common objective is to win the T20 World Cup. For this cause, all of us have to take on the field as a unit.”
Shedding light on the significance of the high-octane clash between archrivals, Pakistan and India. “The clash between Pakistan and India is a different story in which not just the players but the fans from across the globe show their interest with verve,” he added.
He admitted that the Indo-Pakistan clash is all-about pressure games, but outfoxing the other opponents is also crucial to win the tournament.
Azam hailed the T20 World Cup 2024 schedule, saying, “We will experience drop-in pitches in the United States as the tournament here is being held for the first time. It will be all about new experiences with different stadiums and environments.”
“This will be my third World Cup as a captain for Pakistan. The team had sealed the semifinal and final spots during my leadership. Now I want to return to the country by lifting the trophy,” he added.
Highlighting the flaws in the previous editions that halted the team to emerge victorious, Azam said: “We are looking forward to not repeating the same mistakes in line with finishing due to which we could not finish the last two T20 World Cup as winners.”
Speaking about his strike rate, Azam said: “Strike rate is a thing that was discussed a lot. I have worked on improving my strike rate when I realised that I need improvement in this area.”
Azam said that he could not play like Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman, however, he knows how to uplift his game.
The Pakistan limited overs skipper had denounced the narrative that he only plays for himself. “I only play according to the requirements of the game. I had kept aside my personal goals after taking up the responsibility as the skipper,” he added.
