The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has recorded statements from PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Central Information Secretary Raoof Hassan regarding controversial tweets from Imran Khan's social media account.
The FIA's cybercrime wing questioned Raoof Hassan for four hours and Barrister Gohar for two hours, and also provided them with a 21-question questionnaire.
The inquiry focused on who manages Imran Khan's X (formerly Twitter) account in his absence and who authorized the controversial content.
Both leaders submitted their answers separately and assured the FIA of cooperation. The investigation team will review their statements and may re-summon them for further questioning.
Earlier, the FIA had initiated an investigation into a controversial video shared from Imran Khan's account, which compared the current political situation to the 1971 debacle.
The video had accused the current leadership of stealing the party's mandate. The video purportedly aimed to shift the blame for the 1971 breakup of Pakistan onto General Yahya Khan, alleging severe misconduct by the Pakistani military during the conflict.
The contentious video also included imagery of current civilian and military leaders, insinuating their involvement in undermining the PTI’s mandate in recent general elections.
FIA sources disclosed that the agency plans to interrogate four senior PTI leaders regarding the incident.
The post has been labelled by some officials as containing fabricated and propagandistic content, attributed in part to the ongoing political turbulence in the country.
Barrister Gohar had defended the tweet, stating it was meant to make a political point and not target the military. The FIA had also issued notices to three other PTI leaders regarding the controversial video.
Imran Khan had refused to meet the FIA team, citing his imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing, and the FIA is working to determine who was behind the controversial tweets and videos."
