In a gesture aimed at facilitating prisoners during Eidul Azha, Inspector General of Prisons Punjab Mian Farooq Nazir has authorised special visits for inmates across all jails in the province on the first two days of the festive occasion.
According to directives issued by IG Prisons Punjab Mian Farooq Nazir superintendents of all jails have been instructed to ensure meticulous arrangements for these special meetings.
Stringent security measures have also been mandated to preempt any untoward incidents during the visits.
Visitors of prisoners will be permitted to deposit food items after thorough inspection, adhering to strict protocols to maintain security within the jail premises.
Moreover, IG Prisons Punjab emphasized the appointment of special duties for prisoners to facilitate visitors, with senior officers slated to conduct regular inspections of waiting rooms and meeting areas to forestall any instances of malfeasance.
Speaking on logistical arrangements, IG Prisons Punjab directed superintendents to coordinate the preparation of meals, utilizing meat provided by philanthropists, and promptly submit reports to the head office to ensure transparency in operations.
Highlighting the monitoring mechanisms in place, Mian Farooq Nazir stressed the utilisation of a centralized monitoring system to oversee the special meeting arrangements, emphasising a zero-tolerance policy towards any irregularities.
A spokesperson clarified that only family members will be granted access to meet with prisoners on the first and second days of Eidul Azha, cautioning against visits by friends or unauthorized individuals to prevent disruptions during the festive period.
The initiative underscores the Punjab government's commitment to uphold humane treatment and facilitate familial connections for inmates, fostering a sense of compassion and community during Eid celebrations.
