The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Thursday issued a stern warning to all district administrations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a new series of heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, is set to descend upon the region starting today.
With the impending weather changes expected to impact the region from today onwards, the PDMA has urged district authorities to take immediate precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.
The advisory comes in response to a significant risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.
The Met Office said on Wednesday that the last spell of monsoon rain is expected to hit the upper parts of Pakistan from tomorrow (Thursday) as the season withdraws from the country.
The monsoon rain is likely to bring moderate to heavy rainfall, along with wind and thunderstorms, to Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Haripur, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Zhob, Barkhan, Layyah, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Okara, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar from September 28 to 30.
Snowfall is also expected over the high mountains of Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during this period.
The Met office has predicted a significant drop in temperature in the areas affected by the spell.
