Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over an important meeting regarding the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the prime minister emphasized the crucial role of the FBR in the country’s economy and underscored the need for collective efforts to foster national development. "We have to work together for the development of the country," he stressed.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed the FBR to secure the services of top lawyers for pending cases in various courts and tribunals. He announced that he would personally chair weekly review meetings to monitor ongoing reforms and revenue collection efforts within the FBR.
The PM also directed the establishment of Customs Appellate Tribunals alongside the Inland Revenue Appellate Tribunals to expedite the resolution of tax-related cases. Additionally, he emphasized the formulation of a strategy to reward meritorious officers within the FBR.
In the briefing presented to the meeting, it was highlighted that work on the establishment of Appellate Tribunals for Inland Revenue has already commenced. A transparent written examination will be conducted for the appointment of judges in these tribunals to ensure fairness and integrity.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including Minister of Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, MNAs Bilal Azhar Kayani, Barrister Aqeel Malik, Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry, Prime Minister's Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal, the FBR chairman and other senior government officials.
