The city administration has imposed a complete ban on swimming, bathing, diving, and wading along Karachi's beaches and coastlines within the Karachi Division for one month.
This decision, effective from June 28 to July 27, was taken by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi in response to hazardous high tides and turbulent waves, according to a notification issued by the Commissioner Karachi Division.
The directive aims to safeguard the public following a recent drowning incident at Hawks Bay beach on June 20, 2024. The notification highlighted the increased risks posed by the high tides, which have made the beaches of Karachi perilous for visitors engaging in water activities.
Commissioner Naqvi stated that the ban is a necessary precaution to prevent any future drowning incidents and to protect the lives of citizens. The authorities have been vigilant following the incident, leading to this decisive action to ensure public safety.
Furthermore, the Station House Officers (SHOs) of the relevant police stations and other authorities have been empowered to register complaints related to violations of the ban and to take necessary actions against offenders.
