The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued a high alert across the province in anticipation of heavy rains and thunderstorms forecast in the coming days, particularly during the Muharram period.
According to a spokesperson from PDMA, Punjab is expected to experience heavy rains accompanied by strong winds in most districts. Specifically, south Punjab is likely to face thunderstorms and heavy rainfall from July 17 to 19.

The director general of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, has urged the administration to take special precautions on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura). He emphasized avoiding gatherings under unstable roofs or in dilapidated buildings due to the risk of structural collapses during inclement weather.
All rescue organizations have been placed on high alert for Ashura to respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise during the heavy rainfall period. Kathia stressed the importance of readiness, particularly in managing potential floods in rivers and canals across Punjab.

With the threat of urban flooding looming large, the provincial administration has been instructed to complete advanced preparations and remain vigilant. An alert has been issued to concerned authorities to monitor the situation closely and ensure necessary measures are in place.
In response to the weather forecast, the PDMA DG stated, "We are closely monitoring the situation and have alerted all relevant agencies to ensure timely response and effective management of any emergencies. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and cooperate with rescue teams during this critical period."
