The government of Pakistan has reinstated the identity cards and passports of nearly two dozen individuals who were previously cancelled in connection with an alleged attack on former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
Sources revealed that the government had ceased the action of revoking the identity documents of individuals associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
It is important to note that last October, during Qazi Faez Isa's visit to London's Middle Temple, protesters surrounded his vehicle and shouted slogans. In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior had taken serious notice of the incident and instructed the authorities to take action against those involved.
The Pakistani government had also written to the United Kingdom, demanding the extradition of these individuals. Several names, including Maleeka Bokhari, Abdullah M. Khalon and Rahman Anwar were added to the control list.
Following the incident, Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi had announced the commencement of proceedings to revoke the citizenship of these individuals. However, the decision has now been reversed.
At the time of Qazi Faez Isa's departure from Middle Temple, approximately ten protesters had attempted to block his vehicle and open the doors, while also chanting slogans against his judicial decisions.
