Karachi is set to experience hot and humid weather over the next two days, according to the Meteorological Department.
The temperature is expected to reach between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius during the daytime, with the humidity levels hovering around 65%. Due to the suspension of sea breezes, the heat index may feel as high as 40 degrees.
While the heat remains intense in the city, there is a chance of rain accompanied by thunderstorms in certain areas.
Monsoon winds are making their way into Sindh, which could bring some relief, particularly in rural regions. Westerly winds are also anticipated on Thursday and Friday, possibly influencing the weather patterns.
As of now, Karachi’s current temperature stands at 34 degrees Celsius, and the weather is partly cloudy. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during this heatwave.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has issued a forecast predicting rain across several regions in Pakistan, including Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, Northeast Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Lower Sindh, and Northeast Balochistan.
According to officials, thundershowers are expected in various locations within Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pothohar, with similar conditions anticipated in Islamabad, Northeast Punjab, and other areas. While these regions brace for rainfall, the rest of the country will likely experience hot and humid weather.
There are significant concerns regarding potential flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan due to the risk of glacial lake outbursts. Additionally, mountainous areas such as Murree, Guliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may face landslides, which could lead to traffic disruptions.
Urban flooding is also expected in low-lying areas of Upper and Central Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as heavy rains may overwhelm drainage systems. Residents are advised to stay alert and prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
