Renowned TV anchor Ayesha Jahanzeb has announced her decision to file for khula from her husband, Haris Ali.
Ayesha Jahanzeb, who appeared in court to provide a statement regarding her husband’s bail application, revealed that an agreement has been reached with family dignitaries concerning the custody of their children.
During the proceedings before Additional Sessions Judge Arshad Mahmood, Jahanzeb conveyed that she has come to an understanding with her family’s dignitaries, leading to her lack of objection to the bail of the accused, Haris Ali.
The anchor expressed her profound disappointment with the situation but acknowledged the agreed-upon resolution, stating, "What has happened is very cruel and should not happen to any woman. However, I accept the decision made by the dignitaries and choose not to pursue the case further to the extent of bail."
Judge Mahmood, in response to Jahanzeb's statements, inquired whether the reconciliation was made voluntarily. Jahanzeb confirmed her willingness to abide by the agreement despite the gravity of the circumstances.
Following her testimony, the court approved the bail for Haris Ali. The Sarwar Road police station has registered a case against Ali in connection with the matter.
In a subsequent statement to Sama, Jahanzeb disclosed her intention to pursue khula and file for the custody of her children. She affirmed that the agreement reached with family dignitaries includes not pursuing legal action for the handover of the children, emphasising that cohabitation with her husband has become untenable.
Jahanzeb's lawyer corroborated that the family dignitaries' intervention has led to a resolution regarding the children's custody, thus foregoing further court proceedings on the matter.
