Awaam Pakistan Party (APP) Convener Shahid Khaqan Abbasi voiced on Sunday his concerns over the country's political landscape, asserting that political stability cannot be achieved in a nation where elections are manipulated.
Speaking at an event in Karachi, Mr Abbasi stressed the importance of adhering to the Constitution as the only viable path forward.
Addressing the gathering, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi took a jibe at the political parties for drafting manifestos that are often ignored post-election. "Every party has the same manifesto, but there is no real implementation," he remarked, highlighting the growing public disillusionment.
"Today, every Pakistani is worried. Wherever you go, people ask what will happen to the country and what the solution to its problems is."
The former premier emphasised that the primary role of governments is to serve the people by providing essential services such as electricity, water, and healthcare. He pointed out that the key to resolving the nation's issues lies within the framework of the Constitution.
"Countries that break the Constitution do not develop. We need to work diligently to address these problems," he asserted.
Mr Abbasi further lamented the widespread disregard for constitutional obligations, which he believes is a fundamental reason for the country's stagnation. "The country cannot progress because everyone does not honor their oath. Without reforms and a return to the constitutional path, nothing will improve," he warned.
The APP chief also touched upon Pakistan's economic challenges, comparing the current economic situation to that of a decade ago. "The economy is in the same condition as it was 10 years ago. Our leadership remains focused on its interests," he said.
In a pointed critique, he mentioned the absence of any government ministers during athlete Arshad Nadeem's departure for an international event, underscoring the lack of official support for national heroes.
Mr Abbasi reiterated that the solution to Pakistan's problems lies within the Constitution and that any attempt to deviate from it would only exacerbate the nation's crises.
